Remember when the only individuals who cared about the ecosystem were tree huggers as well as hippies? That’s a thing of the past now, with all people being aware of the problems besetting the planet and also the shared burden we have for turning things around. Unless everyone begins to start living more environmentally friendly we won’t be able to fix the problems of the environment. This needs to happen soon and living in ways more friendly to the environment should become an objective for every individual family. Here are some tips that can help you save energy, for the most part by making your kitchen area more green.
Refrigerators and freezers use a lot of electricity, particularly if they are not operating as efficiently as they should. If you might be in the market for a new one, the good news is that compared with models from 10 or more years ago, they use about 60% less electrical power. Maintaining the temperature of the fridge at 37F, coupled with 0F for the freezer, will probably save on electricity, while keeping food at the correct temperature. An additional way to save electricity is to keep the condenser clean, for the reason that the motor won’t have to go as often.
As you can see, there are lots of little things that you can do to save energy, and save money, in the kitchen alone. Green living is not really that tough. Largely, all it will take is a little common sense.

- Toss steak strips with soy sauce and black pepper. You can cook right away or marinate up to 8 hours.
- Chop peppers and onions into 1 inch pieces and set aside.
- Add enough vegetable oil to a large skillet to coat the bottom. Heat over high heat until very hot. Add one layer of beef strips to skillet then saute until nicely browned. Remove from skillet then repeat this process until all the beef is cooked and set aside.
- Coat the bottom of the pan with a little more vegetable oil, reduce heat to medium- high then add chopped peppers and onions then saute for 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and continue cooking for 2 minutes.
- Combine sauce ingredients and mix well. Add sauce and browned beef to skillet. Cook and stir until sauce is thickened and peppers are tender.
- I like to serve with Smashed Garlic Potatoes.
Make sure to dish it out hot off the stove and onto a warm bed of rice. The rice will soak up the mouth-watering marinade. Turn the heat to high and add the flank steak and cook on each side to sear the beef and reduce heat to medium high and continue to cook until no longer pink and brown on each side. In a small bowl, whisk the garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and cornstarch. Add the peppers back to the skillet and add the sauce.
